EPP? What's that?
EPP is an acronym for Expanded Polypropylene foam. EPP foam works great for slope soaring gliders because it's BOUNCY! With EPP, you get a durable glider that can handle multiple crashes and bad landings. It's great for a those who are just learning to slope soar as well as the experienced pilot. Nearly all slope soaring pilots have an EPP glider because they can throw them out anywhere without the fear of totally ruining their plane.
EPP foam typically comes in 1.3# or 1.9# densities. 1.3# EPP is the lightest of the two densities and is optimal when the builder has light wing loadings in mind. 1.9# EPP is more resilient and shapes easier than the 1.3# EPP but is heavier.
EPP foam typically gets coated with 3M™ Super 77 spray adhesive, then reinforced with bi-directional packing tape (like 3M™ Extreme Packing Tape), and finally covering with a low-temp heat shrink covering material (we recommend Ultracote by Hanger 9).
